Faith in Action

 

Faith in Action's (FIA) mission is to provide opportunities for Southside's congregation to be involved in local, regional, national and global outreach. Faith in Action meets most 1st Sundays of each month at 8am at

Southside Blvd. UMC.  Treats and motivation provided.

 

 

 

Local opportunities:

 

FIA coordinated the settlement of a Haitian refugee family to the Treasure Valley.

 

FIA coordinated the exterior painting of the Jordan Valley UMC.

 

FIA collects clothing, toys and supplies for Nampa's Scism School for

teen parents.

 

The Little Red Wagon is in the narthex, and collects non-perishable

food items that FIA delivers to the Salvation Army.

 

FIA provides information on Habitat for Humanity activities. SBUMC

members have served, and are currently serving on HfH committees.

Regional Opportunities:

 

Every 3rd Thursday of each month in the evening Southsiders work at the Idaho Food Bank, sorting, boxing and labeling donated items. http://www.idahofoodbank.org/

 

 

National Opportunities:

 

FIA coordinated collection of Help Packs (toiletries, school

supplies) for Hurricane Katrina victims. A Southsider delivered over

200 packs to the United Methodist Organization Committee on Relief

Global Opportunities:

 

First Mission trip to Honduras in 2000

            Southsiders spent two weeks helping rebuild houses after Hurricane ...

 

Second Mission trip to Honduras

            Southsiders spent two weeks building a church.

 

Mission to Tonga

            Southsiders spent two weeks building a kitchen in a Tongan church.

 

In 2002, FIA coordinated the refurbishment and delivery of 50 PCs to

Tongan congregation.

 

Pennies for Peace is being coordinated by FIA and Southside's

Education committees.  PfP has Sunday School children collect pennies

to buy school supplies and build schools for children along the

Afghanistan/Pakistan border region. Includes Sunday School curriculum

on geography, math, language and art.
