Worhsip Committee...
The worship service at Southside Methodist is a blend of traditional and contemporary with emphasis on the traditional. We are casual and welcome all newcomers with love and fellowship. Our doors, hearts and minds really are open. Communion, which is open to all, is served the first Sunday of the month, using the wine chalice and bread for dipping. Glasses are available for those who prefer that method. Music plays a very important role in our service with the beautiful combination of Helen Tiegs playing the piano and Kristin Sample playing the organ every Sunday morning through the school year. We are very fortunate to have a large choir under the able leadership of Evelyn Bennett. Music ranges from slow and meditative to fast, jazzy, and fun, each piece adding to the atmosphere of worship. Erin Middlehoven provides us with opening music by singing and leading the congregation in song just prior to church. Every aspect of worship is handled by the committee including decorating the church for Advent using memorial poinsettias, for Lent, and for Easter, using memorial lilies. Mother's Day even involves flowers by everyone bringing flowers in honor of their mothers. Children's time with Pastor Jack is a bright spot in the service, with Pastor sometimes wondering where he lost control. As always, children do take the spotlight. Our main task is to reach out and touch each person attending, through music, the word, and the welcoming time we have during the service. The committee meets the 3nd Monday of every month at 5:30PM. For more information please contact the Linda Skogsberg, Committee Chair. |
