United Methodist Women...
United Methodist Women (UMW) is the largest denominational faith organization for women with approximately 800,000 members nationwide whose mission is fostering spiritual growth, developing leaders and advocating for justice. Wonder what the UMW at Southside does with their time and efforts? Two of our largest money-making events are the yard sales, held here at the church, twice a year, in June and September. The profits we make on these sales go into our general fund for later use. We provide cinnamon rolls at Easter for the fellowship coffee-time after services. we have a catered dinner every year for Mother's Day called Mothers and others and it is always well attended. We set up the Christmas tree in the narthex in December and collect toys to be distributed at Scism School. Through the year, UMW freely gives of their services whenever needed, for weddings, funerals, and other activities especially things related to the kitchen. Currently, UMW is providing breakfast for the United Methodist Men's group here at Southside. Once a month we cook up a good breakfast for the guys, and they generously show their appreciation with a free-will collection. With those specific funds, UMW is purchasing some much needed utensils for the kitchen along with many supplies that are sorely lacking in the kitchen at this time. We feel we can help the church in this way. Our gifts and donations during the year include checks to Valley Crisis Center, Nampa Meals on Wheels, Special Olympics and the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). Other donations are given through the year as needed. We would like to invite all the women at Southside to become part of this happy, helpful group of gals. We meet the 3rd Wednesday of the month, September through May at 1:00pm in the fellowship hall. Come join us! For more information, please contact Juanita Hodge (President). |
